Part 7 · Workshop Venue-Change Announcement
Questions 6-8 refer to the following announcement.
Customer Service Workshop
The Marston Business Association will hold a one-day customer service workshop on September 16. The workshop was originally scheduled to take place at the Riverside Hotel but has been moved to the Marston Convention Center because registration exceeded expectations.
Participants who registered before August 20 do not need to take any action; their reservations will automatically be transferred to the new venue. Those who requested hotel accommodation will still stay at the Riverside Hotel, and complimentary transportation to the convention center will be provided in the morning.
A revised program, including the new room assignments, will be e-mailed on September 5. Participants wishing to change or cancel their reservations must contact the association by September 2 to receive a full refund.

Answers appear after you submit
| No. | Correct answer | Point tested | Explanation |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | A · revise | Subjunctive mood | "recommend that + subject + (should) revise": the that-clause after recommend/suggest/request/demand takes the subjunctive — the verb stays in its base form regardless of the subject. |
| 2 | B · accessible | Linking verb + adjective | "are readily ______ to clients": a be-verb takes an adjective as its complement, and "accessible" (easy to understand/obtain) fits both meaning and part of speech; "access" (noun/verb), "accessibility" (noun), and "accessibly" (adverb) cannot serve as complements. |
| 3 | C · despite | Concessive preposition | "despite" expresses concession, fitting "the project stayed within budget despite a sharp rise in material costs"; "because of" (causal, reversed logic), "according to", and "except for" all fail to fit. |
| 4 | A · promptly | as...as structure | "as promptly as possible": the as...as construction needs an adverb to modify the verb "communicated"; "prompt" (adjective/verb), "promptness" (noun), and "prompting" (gerund/present participle) all fail on part of speech. |
| 5 | B · insufficient | Adjective meaning discrimination | "the evidence was not sufficient to reach a definitive conclusion": "insufficient" fits the meaning; "consecutive," "reluctant," and "respective" all fail to fit the context. |
| 6 | B · More people registered than anticipated. | Reason detail question | Corresponds to "...has been moved to the Marston Convention Center because registration exceeded expectations." |
| 7 | A · Free morning transportation | Detail question | Corresponds to "...complimentary transportation to the convention center will be provided in the morning." |
| 8 | C · They may not qualify for a full refund. | Inference question | The passage's "must contact the association by September 2 to receive a full refund" implies that cancellations after September 2 may not receive a full refund. |

06 Answer techniques
Part 5 + 7 · 6 tips
- 01Subjunctive mood structure
"recommend/suggest/request/demand/insist" + that-clause: the verb in the that-clause stays in its base form regardless of the subject's person or number.
- 02Linking verb followed by an adjective
In this sentence, the blank is modified by the adverb "readily," so only an adjective (accessible) fits. However, linking verbs like be/become/remain/seem can also take a noun as a complement (e.g., "become a manager") — judge by the sentence's actual structure rather than assuming only an adjective is possible.
- 03Concessive vs. causal prepositions
"despite" (concession) and "because of" (cause) point in opposite logical directions — judge by whether the sentence's surrounding logic forms a contrast.
- 04Adverb inside an as...as structure
"as + adverb + as possible" modifies a verb; "as + adjective + as possible" modifies a noun or complement — check what's being modified.
- 05Reason detail questions: look for signal words
"moved...because registration exceeded expectations" states the reason directly — the most straightforward clue for this question type.
- 06Inference questions: read what a conditional clause implies
"must contact... by September 2 to receive a full refund" implies that missing this date may forfeit the full refund — inference questions often require working backward from a conditional clause to an unstated consequence.
