Part 7 · Rescheduled Supplier-Assessment Notice
Questions 6-8 refer to the following e-mail.
To: Operations Managers From: Quality Assurance Subject: Supplier Assessment Visit
The annual assessment of Kensei Components, originally scheduled for October 20, has been moved to October 22 because the lead auditor will be unavailable on the earlier date. The production tour will still take place in the morning, followed by a review of quality-control records in the afternoon.
Please upload Kensei's updated safety procedures and defect reports from the past three months to the secure portal by October 15. Documents submitted after that date may not be reviewed before the visit. Confidential records should not be sent by regular e-mail.
Kensei should provide protective equipment for the three auditors and arrange for an English-speaking employee to accompany them during the production tour. A final assessment report will be issued within ten business days of the visit. A corrective-action plan will be requested only if the auditors identify shortcomings.

| No. | Correct answer | Point tested | Explanation |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | A · facilitate | Verb-meaning discrimination | "facilitate" (to promote, to make easier) typically takes an abstract noun (integration, process, communication, etc.) as its object and fits the context "facilitate new employees' integration into their teams." "compile," "retain," and "postpone" do not fit. |
| 2 | B · commensurate | Fixed adjective collocation | "commensurate with" (in proportion to, matching) is common where pay matches experience or qualifications. "adjacent," "tentative," and "prevalent" do not fit in meaning or usage. |
| 3 | C · inadvertently | Adverb-meaning discrimination | "inadvertently" (unintentionally, by accident) modifies an action caused by carelessness and fits "deleted by mistake during the system upgrade." "considerably" (a degree adverb), "mutually," and "scarcely" do not fit the meaning. |
| 4 | D · Pending | Fixed prepositional usage | "Pending" (awaiting, until) works as a preposition followed by a noun phrase, meaning "until approval from the legal department is obtained." "Except," "During" (which normally takes a continuous span of time), and "Among" do not fit an "awaiting approval" context. |
| 5 | A · enables | Parallel-structure agreement | The two predicate verbs joined by "not only...but also..." must match in form; since "automates" is third-person singular present, the second verb must also be "enables." "enabled" (past), "enabling" (present participle), and "to enable" (infinitive) all break the parallelism. |
| 6 | B · The lead auditor cannot attend on the original date. | Reason detail question | Corresponds to "has been moved to October 22 because the lead auditor will be unavailable on the earlier date." The "because" clause states the reason for rescheduling directly. |
| 7 | D · Protective equipment and an English-speaking employee | Detail question | Corresponds to "Kensei should provide protective equipment for the three auditors and arrange for an English-speaking employee to accompany them during the production tour." Both parallel tasks joined by "and" must be identified; do not pick only one. |
| 8 | C · It will be required if problems are discovered. | Understanding a conditional | Corresponds to "A corrective-action plan will be requested only if the auditors identify shortcomings." "only if" limits when it applies — required only when problems are found, not after every assessment. |

06 Answer techniques
Part 5 + 7 · 6 tips
- 01"facilitate" meaning discrimination
"facilitate" means "to promote, to make easier" and takes an abstract noun (integration, process, communication, etc.) as its object. "compile," "retain," and "postpone" do not fit a "facilitate integration" context.
- 02The fixed phrase "commensurate with"
Means "in proportion to, matching," common where pay matches experience or qualifications. "adjacent," "tentative," and "prevalent" don't fit in meaning or usage. It is always followed by "with."
- 03"inadvertently" meaning discrimination
Means "unintentionally, by accident" and modifies actions caused by carelessness (deleting or sending something by mistake). "considerably" (a degree adverb), "mutually," and "scarcely" do not fit the meaning.
- 04"pending" as a preposition
Means "awaiting, until"; it is followed by a noun phrase, not a full clause. "Except," "During" (usually a continuous span of time), and "Among" do not fit an "awaiting approval" context.
- 05Parallelism with "not only...but also..."
The two joined parts must keep the same verb form; since "automates" is third-person singular present, the second verb must also be "enables." "enabled" (past), "enabling" (present participle), and "to enable" (infinitive) break the parallelism.
- 06Reading: locating cause-and-effect, not missing parallel objects, and the "only if" restriction
Q6: the "because" clause states the reason for rescheduling directly. Q7: identify both parallel objects joined by "and" (protective equipment + an English-speaking employee); don't pick only one. Q8: "only if" limits when the corrective-action plan applies — required only when problems are found, not after every assessment.
