Part 7 · New-Product Display Notice
Questions 6-8 refer to the following e-mail.
To: All Store Managers From: Merchandising Department Subject: Display Instructions for New Product Line
Our new range of environmentally friendly cleaning products will go on sale on November 16. Full-size promotional displays are scheduled to arrive at all stores by November 10. Managers should assemble the displays near the front aisle and upload a photograph of the completed setup by November 13.
Stores without enough floor space for the full display may use a smaller countertop version. Managers requiring this version must submit a request through the merchandising portal by November 6. Please do not discard the full-size display materials, as they may be collected and used at another location.
Promotional prices will apply from November 16 through November 29. Cash-register systems will be updated centrally, and the correct shelf labels will be included with the display materials. Prices must not be reduced before November 16 because doing so would interfere with the company's inventory-tracking process.
Product demonstrations will be arranged only at selected stores. Managers of those locations will receive separate instructions next week.

Answers appear after you submit
| No. | Correct answer | Point tested | Explanation |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | A · phase out | Phrasal verb discrimination | "phase out" (to gradually stop using) fits "gradually stop using single-use plastic containers." "turn over" (to hand over/flip), "bring up" (to raise a topic/raise a child), and "put aside" (to set aside/save) cannot express "gradually eliminate." |
| 2 | C · will have completed | Future perfect tense | With "By the time + present tense" (a future time clause), the main clause needs the future perfect, meaning "already completed by that future point." "completes" (present tense), "had completed" (past perfect), and "has been completing" (present perfect progressive) all fail to match the future time point "by the time...next Monday." |
| 3 | A · assumption | Noun collocation | "on the assumption that..." (based on the premise that) is a fixed collocation. "conclusion" (usually "reach a conclusion"), "indication," and "preference" cannot combine with "on the...that" to mean "premise." |
| 4 | C · accurately | Part-of-speech discrimination | Modifying the verb "reflect" requires the adverb "accurately." "accuracy" (noun), "accurate" (adjective), and "accurateness" (noun, rare) cannot modify a verb. |
| 5 | A · grounds | Noun collocation | "on the grounds that..." (for the reason that) is a fixed collocation, often used to state a reason for objecting or refusing. "causes," "purposes," and "occasions" cannot combine with "on the...that" to mean "reason." |
| 6 | B · Upload a photograph of the display | Deadline detail question | Corresponds to "Managers should assemble the displays near the front aisle and upload a photograph of the completed setup by November 13." What must be done by November 13 is uploading a photo of the completed display. (A) shelf labels arrive with the display materials and need no separate request, (C) returning products is never mentioned, and (D) the cash-register systems are updated centrally, not by store managers. |
| 7 | A · Request a countertop version | Alternative-option identification question | Corresponds to "Stores without enough floor space for the full display may use a smaller countertop version." When space is insufficient, a countertop version may be used instead. (B) outdoor setup is never mentioned, (C) the launch date is unaffected, and (D) the notice explicitly says not to discard the unused full-size materials. |
| 8 | C · Earlier discounts would affect inventory tracking. | Reason-inference question | Corresponds to "Prices must not be reduced before November 16 because doing so would interfere with the company's inventory-tracking process." Reducing prices early would disrupt inventory tracking, which is the reason for waiting. (A), (B), and (D) have no basis in the text. |
